War Orphan Tuition Assistance:

Children of Iowa veterans killed in action following September 11, 2001 are eligible for up to $11,844.00 per year in tuition assistance at an Iowa post-secondary institution. Children qualify up to the age of twenty-six . Dependents of those killed in action prior to September 11, 2001 are eligible for $600 per year with a maximum of $3,000. Services For Special Moving Situations

  • Foreign-born spouses: Are you a newlywed or moving for the first time since tying the knot? The Relocation Assistance Program can help you and your spouse with resources and referrals about immigration and naturalization. Staff can also help you find English language programs, translation services and advice on how to get around the local area.
  • Special needs: If you have a child or family member enrolled in the EFMP Exceptional Family Member Program, you know its important to find the right support at your new installation. Relocation assistance service providers can help you get connected with your EFMP Family Support provider to get the information you need before you arrive.
  • Your final military move: Most service members leaving the military, either at retirement or at the end of active service, can get a final move at government expense. You may also be able to get other benefits, such as storage of household goods, travel allowances and Per Diem but benefits can vary by service branch. Fund For Veterans Assistance

Read this first: The Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance awards reimbursement grants to eligible charitable organizations, local government agencies, and Veterans Service Organizations that provide direct services to Texas Veterans and their families. The FVA does not grant funds directly to Veterans. Veterans in need of assistance are asked to visit the Grants Awarded page at the Texas Veterans Commission website to find organizations in their area for information on receiving assistance.

Louisiana State And Federal Civil Service

Louisiana state and city civil service departments award a five to ten-point preference in original appointment to Veterans who served honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces under certain circumstances. Federal law also grants five and ten-point preference to Veterans who meet certain criteria when they apply for federal jobs.

  • Va Burial Benefits And Plot Allowances

    Surviving spouses and dependents may qualify for allowances to help pay for a veterans burial and funeral costs. You may be able to get Veterans burial allowances if youre paying for the burial and funeral costs and you wont be reimbursed by any other organization, like another government agency or the Veterans employer. If the Veteran died of a service connected disability ON or AFTER September 11, 2001, the maximum VA burial benefit allowance is $2,000 or $1,500 for a Veteran who died of a service connected disability BEFORE September 11, 2001.

    Veteran Designation And Discounts On Louisiana Drivers Licenses And Ids

    Veterans can now be recognized through a special VETERAN designation on their official Louisiana drivers licenses and IDs. Veterans may also qualify for special discounts or waivers on fees for drivers licenses or IDs. Proof of Veteran status is required.

  • Military Family Assistance Fund

    Disabled veteran fears homelessness after $1,100 rent increase

    The Military Family Assistance Fund can provide financial support to Louisiana Veterans and their families when they experience financial hardships. Certain criteria applies. In order to receive funds through MFA, a completed application must be submitted to LDVA including all required supporting documentation. MFA can pay up to $10,000.00 for one claim per active-duty order in a twelve month period.

  • Qualifications

    To qualify for assistance from the MFA Fund, Veterans and activated military applicants must meet certain minimum active-duty service requirements, and have been honorably discharged. Immediate family members of eligible Veterans and activated military personnel may also qualify. Completed applications must include all supporting documents requested on the form.

    Ptsd Help For Struggling Veteran

    Clinton is an Army veteran who served in Iraq for a year. While he survived a roadside bomb and recovered from his physical injuries, the PTSD he experienced after returning home was crippling.     Benefits For 100 Percent Disabled Veterans

    Veterans who qualify for a 100 percent disability rating from the VA are entitled to additional benefits not afforded to other veterans. Below is a list of benefits for 100 percent disabled veterans and their dependents.

    The unremarried surviving spouse of the disabled veteran is eligible for the exemption based upon the eligibility of their spouse therefore the spouse must also be a Michigan resident. The exemption will continue only as long as the surviving spouse remains unremarried.

    Income Tax Credit for Property Tax Paid

    The state’s income tax code provides a tax credit for property tax paid by a disabled veteran or surviving spouse. This benefit varies depending on disability rating and the family’s income. Use the MI-1040CR-2 to apply for the tax credit. Even if no income tax is due, an eligible veteran may still submit a MI-1040CR-2 to receive the income tax credit as a tax refund. Visit the Michigan Department of Treasury website for a copy of the form and the instructions.

    Disabled Veteran Benefits Travel Pay Reimbursement

    VA Travel Pay Reimbursement is for regular transportation, such as, car or POV, plane, train, bus, taxi, or light rail. You may be eligible for this reimbursement if youre traveling for care at a VA health facility or for VA-approved care at a facility in your community, and at least one of the below descriptions is true for you. In 2022, the current VA travel pay reimbursement rate is 41.5 cents per mile for approved, health-related travel.

    The State of Iowa has established a multi-million dollar fund to provide certain services to veterans. Beginning in December 2007, interest from this fund has been available to provide relief for Iowa veterans and their families. Currently, funds are used for unemployment or underemployment assistance due to service-related causes, assistance with vision, hearing, dental care, durable medical equipment, and prescription drugs counseling and substance abuse services vehicle repairs housing repair and transitional housing in an emergency.     Temporary Residence Adaptation Grant

    Sometimes it is easier for disabled veterans to receive the medical care they need at the home of a family member. TRA grants provide financial assistance to disabled service members who maintain eligibility under Section 2101 of th SHA Grant or Section 2101 of the SAH Grant.

    Additionally, disabled veterans who meet eligibility requirements can also receive a housing grant to pay for modifications to a family members home. In this situation, the VA allows you to use up to $14,000 of a $50,000 SHA Grant or up to $2,000 of a $10,000 SHA grant. However, this only applies to disabled veterans no longer on active duty since the Department of Veterans Affairs cannot offer these grants to current military service members.

    100 Percent VA Ratings: What It Means To Be a 100% Disabled Veteran

    The Louisiana Veterans First Business Initiative was championed by Governor John Bel Edwards during the 2019 legislative session. It was created to honor the sacrifice that Louisiana veterans have made by recognizing businesses owned by a veteran, active-duty or reserve military, or Gold Star spouse.

    The program will allow for veterans, active-duty or reserve military, or Gold Star spouses who have a fifty-one percent ownership in a business to apply for and gain certification to recognize and promote their businesses.     Special Home Adaptation Grant

    You can receive up to $12,756 to pay for adaptive modification to your current home or to buy a new home. Eligible veterans can apply for both the SHA Grant and the SAH Grant. If you feel you meet the criteria for both housing grants, the next step is to complete Form 26-4555 and submit it to the closest regional office of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

    Direct Hire Authority For Federal Jobs

    A Direct-Hire Authority is an appointing authority that the Office of Personnel Management can give to Federal agencies for filling vacancies when a critical hiring need or severe shortage of candidates exists. While Veterans preference does NOT apply when selecting individuals under DHA, in our experience, transitioning military members, veterans, and disabled veterans are often well trained and suited for Federal positions.
