At this time, all 50 states and Puerto Rico offer a Veteran designation printed on state-issued drivers licenses or IDs. The type of Veteran designation may vary from state to state.If you have a Veterans designation, you may be able to get discounts offered to Veterans at many stores, businesses, and restaurants.

Most states ask you to provide a copy of your discharge papers . Some states may require additional documents.

County Court House Or Clerk Office Issued Veterans Cards

Some counties offer veteran ID cards. In addition, New York City offers a veterans designation on its city-issued ID cards. As with many such IDs, these cards cannot be used to access military bases or VA services. However, they are good for getting military discounts at businesses, parks and other attractions.

Former Military Member/no Longer Serving Not Retired Id Card Dd Form 2765

The tan military ID card is issued to any of the following ex-military members: permanently, 100-percent disabled veterans, Medal of Honor recipients, area executives, USO assistant directors , transitional health care members, center directors and former servicemembers receiving retired pay. Additionally, officers and crews of MSC vessels deployed to foreign countries, United Seamans Service Personnel OCONUS and Select Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve personnel are also eligible.

How To Receive A Vhic

Veterans must be enrolled in the VA health care system to receive a VHIC. To enroll, effective immediately, Veterans who served in a theater of combat operations after November 11, 1998, can complete applications for enrollment in VA health care by telephone without the need for a signed paper application. All other Veterans may apply by phone starting July 5, 2016. You may also apply for enrollment online at www.va.gov/healthbenefits/enroll, call 1-877-222-VETS Monday Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET., or in person at your local VA medical facility. Once your enrollment is verified, you may have your picture taken at your local VA medical center, so that a VHIC can be mailed to you.

When Veterans choose to enroll, VA offers an enhancement to their enrollment experience through “Welcome to VA” . W2VA enhances communication by reaching out to newly enrolled Veterans through personal phone calls upon enrollment, providing assistance with health care inquiries and assisting with their initial appointment at their preferred VA healthcare facility. What If You No Longer Have Any Military Affiliation

The TSA PreCheck program is open to:

• U.S. citizens of frequent flyer programs who meet TSA-mandated criteria and who have been invited by a participating airline.
• U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents with a Known Traveler Number , sometimes referred to as a trusted traveler number.
• U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents who are members of the TSA Pre?® application program.

Documents Needed To Obtain A Military Id Card

Applicants are required to provide at least two original forms of identification from the lists below. The ID must be current and not expired. At least one of the forms of ID must be from the primary identity source document list. You can use one form of ID from the Secondary Identity Source Document List. The member must have proof of name change if their name has changed.

Note: In general, you must be in the DEERS system to receive a new military ID card. This includes the servicemember and eligible dependents .

You are usually eligible to receive a military ID if you are currently serving in the military , or you are a military retiree. Qualified dependents are eligible for dependent ID cards as well.

Finally, certain veterans are eligible for a military ID card if they are a Medal of Honor recipient, have a 100% disability rating, or in certain other limited circumstances.

Here are some general rules regarding military ID card eligibility. Check with your local issuing base personnel office for more specific information.

Active Duty ID card.

• You must be on Active Duty military status and be in the DEERS system.

Guard/Reserve military ID card.

• You must be in the Guard or Reserves, which may include the Inactive Ready Reserves .

Retiree military ID card.

• You must qualify as a military retiree, which generally means 20 years of active military service, or 20 years in the Guard or Reserves . Medically retired servicemembers may also be eligible.
• Gray Area retirees will receive a different military ID card until they reach age 60.

State Issued Veterans Designation On Drivers Licenses Or Identification Cards

In most states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, you have the option of displaying veteran status on your state-issued drivers licenses and ID cards..

In most cases, proof of military service is required and you contact your states department or bureau of motor vehicles or equivalent to learn what the requirements and procedures are.

Some states may require a copy of DD Form 214, and many require supporting documentation.

Costs vary.. Fees may be waived if you were awarded a Purple Heart. Some states offer a free initial card with fees for renewal when it expires. More information on veterans ID cards provided by states can be found here.

If you reside in a state that currently offers veterans designation on a drivers license or ID card, this is the easiest and best option that government agencies and businesses accept.

How To Get Your Military Id Card

You will be issued your military ID through ID Card Office Online or in person at any Real-Time Automated Personnel Identification System site. RAPIDS offices are located on military bases, at National Guard armories and at reserve training locations.

First, you must be registered in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System, known as DEERS.

Service members, retirees, DOD civilians and former members have their information fed to DEERS through automated data feeds. Dependents and others will need to complete a DD Form 1172-2 with their military sponsor and visits a RAPIDS site with two forms of acceptable ID and proper documentation for final verification and processing.

A military ID card is an official way to prove your military affiliation. But some people prefer not to pull their ID card out in public. Eligible Veterans Can Shop At Defense Commissaries

In 2020, commissary shopping benefits expanded to include more Veterans, as the Purple Heart and Disabled Veterans Equal Access Act of 2018 authorized the Department of Defense to expand access to commissary shopping privileges to additional valued members of the military community.

Expanding privileges

The law, which took effect January 1, 2020, extends commissary shopping privileges to:

• Veterans with any VA-documented service-connected disabilities
• Purple Heart recipients
• Former prisoners of war and
• Individuals assessed, approved and designated as primary family caregivers to eligible Veterans under VAs Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers.

Veterans and designated caregivers are encouraged to check their commissary privilege qualifications.

Obtaining the proper identification

Obtain a Veteran Health Identification Card and ensure it reflects eligibility through one of the required designations: SERVICE CONNECTED, MEDAL OF HONOR, PURPLE HEART or FORMER POW. The card and designation will be required during the commissary check-out process.
