In addition to traditional disability plans and FMLA administration services, UnitedHealthcare also provides private plans related to Connecticut and Massachusetts state-mandated Paid Family and Medical Leave coverage.

For groups with 100 or more eligible employees and at least 25 or more working in Connecticut or Massachusetts, we can provide private plan coverage on a fully-insured or self-insured basis.

What Is Covered In Short

Short-term disability insurance is designed to cover a wide range of events. How Much Will I Get Paid

If your claim is approved by UnitedHealthcare, then you will be paid a benefit of up to two-thirds of your base pay rate at the time you became disabled. For example, if you were earning $15 hourly, then you would receive $10 hourly while on short term disability.

Some other conditions apply, including:

  • If you receive an increase in pay while you are on short term disability, your benefit will continue to be paid at the rate in effect on the date you became disabled.
  • If you are eligible to receive benefits from another source , then your short term disability benefit will be adjusted accordingly. You will not receive more than 100% of your regular pay.
  • Short term disability benefits are taxable because the county provides the benefit at no cost to you.
  • The county will continue to pay its portion of your group insurance coverage while you remain on short term disability. Your premium contributions will still be deducted from your disability pay, as well as any deductions you have authorized .

Have your doctor specify in writing:

Plaintiff worked as a recruiting manager for UnitedHealth Group, Inc. beginning in 2006. UHG is a group of health care companies with its principal place of doing business being located in Minnesota.

Plaintiff was a participant of UHGs short-term and long-term disability benefit plans.

Terms of the Plans include:

  • Short-Term Disability Plan provided income protection and pay benefits to disabled UHG employees for up to 180 days after the disability occurs.
  • The Plan was funded by UHG and administered by Sedgwick.
  • Long-Term Disability Plan provided income protection and pay benefits to disabled UHG employees after a 180-day waiting period and during their periods of disability up to certain maximum benefit periods.
  • For the first 24 months, the LTD plan was funded by UHG and administered by Sedgwick.

Other Terms of the LTD Plan included:
