Applying For Va Compensation Benefits

When applying for VA benefits, supply as much supporting information as possible, including how the injury or illness occurred, any medical treatment you received, current health status, and how your life has been affected by the injury or illness.

You will need to fill out VA Form 21-526, Veterans Application for Compensation and/or Pension, or apply online using VONAPP. Be sure to provide a copy of your DD Form 214.

Disability Ratings Are Awarded On A Case By Case Basis

To rate a disability claim, the VA first tries to determine whether or not you sustained your illness or injury in military service. Then, they assign a rating for each illness or injury.

If the VA determines your injury or illness isnt related to your military service or didnt happen while you were in the military, they will deny your claim. If the VA approves your claim, they will assign it a rating between 0% 100%.

A 0% rating shows there is an illness or injury that is connected to your military service, but it doesnt warrant compensation at this time. It is still good to get a 0% rating compared to no service-connected link because if the condition worsens at a later date, you can apply to have your disability rating upgraded.

Usaa And Navy Federal Va Disability Direct Deposit Dates

Please note that you may get your direct deposit payment sooner depending upon your bank.

USAA and Navy Federal pay dates for 2022 VA disability pay will arrive 1-3 days prior if youve set-up direct deposit from the VA.

I use direct deposit for my VA disability compensation payment, which goes directly to my Navy Federal checking account each month, and it usually arrives 1-3 days prior.

For example, the April 2021 VA disability compensation pay date was April 30, 2021, but arrived in my Navy Federal account one day early.

Does The Va Require Direct Deposit

The VA has mandated electronic payments since 2013. Through VBBP, the VA will help you get a free checking account with a partner bank, but if you dont want to do that, you can receive payment via a Treasury-issued Direct Express debit card.

These debit cards dont have as much protection against fraud as traditional bank accounts do. Additionally, you wont be able to deposit funds from other sources to your Direct Express debit card. Youll also only get one free ATM withdrawal per month.

Who Should I Contact If I Have Questions About My Disability Rating

There are many organizations that specialize in helping veterans with their benefits and claims.

The first place to start is with the VA. VA representatives have access to your records and are the best source for up-to-date information.

However, the VA isnt always the best place to get assistance with your claim, especially if you are filing an appeal after the VA denied your claim. In that case, I recommend contacting a veteran benefits counselor at your county VA office, or an organization such as the DAV, AMVETS, VFW, American Legion, or a similar Veteran Service Organization.

You can also use the Physical Evaluation Board Forum to anonymously ask questions about VA disabilities, ratings and the military medical board process.

If that doesnt work, consider hiring a lawyer that specializes in VA disability claims. I dont have any specific recommendations for lawyers, so please do your research before hiring a law office to represent you. At the minimum, you will want to ensure they specialize in military law, VA disability claims, social security disability claims, or similar types of law. As with all legal agreements, also make sure you understand the compensation structure.

Thank you for understanding, and thank you for your service!

Va Disability Payment Schedule For 2022

The official VA disability pay date is the first of the month. The VA pays in arrears, meaning your payment covers the previous months due, not the upcoming month. For example, VA payments received Sept. 1 include disability benefits for August.

Actual VA disability direct deposit dates may vary because the VA sends the money early to ensure you receive it by the first of the month. Some banks release these direct deposits immediately, while others may hold them for a few days. If the first of the month falls on a Monday, a holiday or a weekend, it will likely hit your bank account a business day prior.

Visit our VA benefits direct deposit schedule to view VA disability pay dates in 2 022.

The VA usually pays education benefits such as military housing allowance on the first of the month but incidental expenses like tuition stipends and other GI Bill payments may come at any point during the month.

    What Is Va Disability Compensation

Disability compensation is a tax-free federal benefit paid out to veterans with service-connected medical conditions and disabilities incurred while on active duty or, for reserve component service members, in the line of duty while on orders.

Once the disabled veteran qualifies for payment benefits, the Department of Veterans Affairs pays out the benefit each month, effective January each year.

Payment values vary based on your medical condition and severity. They can also vary based on the number of family members a veteran has such as a surviving spouse.

Not every disabled veteran is eligible for VA disability benefits. To qualify, you must meet three basic criteria:

1.) You must have a current condition, recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs, and diagnosed by a physician

2.) You must have an injury, illness, or mental health condition incurred while in-service

3.) You must be able to establish a medical nexus between your current disabling condition and your military service.

If there is an issue with an overpayment then you want to speak to the individuals who work in VA Debt Management. This may seem odd, and you may have to re-read this a few times, but I can honestly say that the people who work for VA Debt Management are very helpful. Weve recommended a lot of Veterans to them over the years and theyve been very pleased with the results. They will work with you to make a plan to recover any overpayment. It is possible in this situation for us to keep your benefits from being reduced. This is dependent on a case by case evaluation. For instance, if you are service connected for a type of cancer, and it goes into remission, then a reduction in your benefits is correct according to the VA. However, there are other avenues to explore in a situation like this.
