The VA may be able to cover the cost for your eyeglasses, your routine eye examinations and preventative care. For the VA to cover the cost of your eyeglasses, you must have a compensable service-connected disability, or are a former prisoner of war, or were awarded a purple heart, or receive benefits under Title 38 United States Code 1151, or receive an increased pension based on your permanent housebound status and are in needs of regular aid and attendance.
The VA can pay for basic optometry services if you already have established health care benefits with the VA. You can also receive visual rehabilitation or advanced eye care services low vision and blindness.
In order to receive hearing aids other assisted hearing devices, you must first qualify for VA health benefits. You can schedule an appointment to be evaluated for your hearing and an audiologist will make a clinical determination on the need for hearing aids and/or hearing assistive devices. Additional Va Disability Compensation For Dependents
Disabled veterans with a current VA disability rating of 30% or higher are eligible for an increase in monthly VA disability compensation to help support your family. Disabled veterans can apply online for free and add/remove dependents at any time on the VA.gov website inside their VA disability claim online application. The application typically takes 30 days or less to add or remove dependents.

How To Apply For Educational Assistance
If your child or spouse wishes to apply for the DEA program, they can apply online or apply by mail. If they wish to apply by mail, they must fill out VA Form 22-5490 and mail it to their states regional processing office. You can .
If you wish to apply for the Fry Scholarship, youll first need to make sure that your school of choice has a program that is approved for VA benefits. Then you may apply online and fill out VA Form 22-5490 as with the DEA program. Children applying for the program who are not legally adults must have a parent or guardian sign the application.

Dental Care Benefits For 100 Percent Disabled Veterans
If you qualify for VA dental care benefits , you may be able to get some or all of your dental care through VA. The eligibility for outpatient dental care is somewhat different from the eligibility requirements for most other VA medical benefits. Specifically, eligibility for VA dental care is categorized into classes. The class you are in determines the benefits you will receive.
Veterans with 100 percent disability ratings are categorized into Class IV. Importantly, these veterans are eligible for any needed dental care, such as scheduled cleanings and X-rays. It also includes restorative procedures such as fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures. Any oral surgeries that you might require, such as tooth extractions, root canals, and reconstructive surgeries due to trauma or serious illness are covered as well. Virginia Military Survivors And Dependents Education Program
The Military Survivors and Dependents Program provides educational benefits to spouses and children of military service members killed, missing in action, taken prisoner, or who became at least 90% disabled as a result of military service in an armed conflict.
The veterans 90-100% permanent disability must have been directly caused by the veterans involvement in military operations:
- against terrorism
- as a result of a terrorist act
- an armed conflict.
In the first tier of the program, eligible students are guaranteed a waiver of all tuition and mandatory fees for eight semesters at a Virginia public college or university, or Eastern Virginia Medical School. In the second tier, eligible students may receive a stipend to offset educational expenses such as room, board, books, and supplies.

Who Is Eligible And Time Periods
Children and spouses of veterans who are totally and permanently disabled are eligible for Dependents’ Educational Assistance. Spouses can generally use these benefits for 10 years from the date the VA deems them eligible. In some cases, spouses can use the benefits for 20 years. This happens when the veteran was rated permanently and totally disabled within three years after discharge from the service, and the 20-year-period begins running on the date the veteran received the disability rating.
Children are eligible for the benefits from the Dependents’ Educational Assistance program between 18 and 26 years old. Sometimes eligibility can begin before age 18 and continue past age 26. Children remain eligible for Dependents’ Educational Assistance even after they marry.
Children who are active service members in the military are not eligible to receive this benefit while on active duty. Once discharged, benefits are available as long as the discharge is not under dishonorable conditions. The period of eligibility for Educational Assistance will be extended by the amount of time spent on active duty, but this extension will usually not go beyond a child’s 31st birthday.

Emergency Care Outside Of Va For 100% Disabled Veterans
Veterans in the Priority 1 Group described above that have a P& T disability rating are entitled to emergency care outside of the Veterans Health Administration for any disability. Such emergency care is at VAs expense. Veterans must simply show that VA was not reasonably available to provide the care that they needed at the time.
How Can I Qualify For A 100 Percent Va Disability Rating
To qualify for a 100 percent VA rating, you must either have one condition rated at 100%, or have one or more individual VA ratings increased, which will then increase your total combined rating to 95.00 or higher .
If your conditions have worsened since you last applied and now qualify for a higher rating, you can submit a new claim on VA.gov by checking the box for an increased evaluation.

Dependents Education Assistance Program
The Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance program offers education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-connected condition, currently receiving TDIU benefits, or who died while on active duty, or as a result of a service-connected condition. DEA benefits may be used for degree and certificate programs, apprenticeship, and on-the-job training. Dependents may receive up to 45 months of education benefits, if they began using the program before August 1, 2018. If they began the program on or after August 1, 2018, they have 36 months to use the benefits.
Operation Recognition High School
This program furnishes an honorary high school diploma to qualifying veterans who did not complete high school due to armed service enlistment.
